“Your principles can’t be extinguished unless you snuff out the thoughts that feed them, for it’s continually in your power to reignite new ones….It’s possible to start living again! See things anew as you once did–that is how to restart life!”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.2
I recently overheard one of my younger coworkers very passionately explaining that whatever war the U.S. gets into next, (unpack that statement) he is surely going to enlist and fight because it is the right thing to do and girls love a soldier. It was interesting to listen to such a self assured young person speak of such big topics with so much certainty. He had it figured out. His principles were in stone. I’d love to time travel into the future and see what the older version of himself thought of those comments 20-30 years prior.
