“From Rusticus… I learned to read carefully and not be satisfied with a rough understanding of the whole, and not to agree too quickly with those who have a lot to say about something.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 1.7.3
This is one of those points I feel I became comfortable with WAY too late in life. I believed the adamant too quickly and sure too fully. Maybe that’s just how long it was supposed to take for me. This is a quality I am trying actively to instill in our son of 9. It seems every day he comes home with some fantastical tale his friends tell him and we remind him his friends don’t know what they’re talking about and not to believe them simply because they are telling the “truth”.
